Weymouth College Mens Basketball

College continue form downing Woodroffe

Weymouth College continued their successful start of the season following their win over Thomas Hardye when they hosted Woodroffe School from Lyme Regis.

Weymouth never looked back from the opening 3 point basket from Sam Dodge. The home side seemed they couldn’t miss with baskets from Jack Speary and Gaz Williams, which led to them building a strong 1st period lead. Woodroffe did have moments of good play on their fast break, though Weymouth were quick to counter with several steal leading to their own fast break baskets from Williams and Dan Campbell. Despite loosing Sam Dodge to injury, with a 44 – 15 lead going into the second half, Weymouth still looked good moving ahead.

The second half didn’t start as well for the home side as they turned over the ball several times, not remaining competitive due to the score. Coach Alex Fuhrmann soon called a time-out making clear that this was not an option for his team and that they should remain competitive regardless of the score. Weymouth regained their form and despite some strong rebounding from the Lyme side they stayed calm finding the right passes, with Campbell and Williams linking up well. As the game clock ticked down Weymouth were clearly in command as Dan Campbell hit his 6th 3 pointer of the game, capping a 77 – 25 win.

Coach Alex Fuhrmann, “Some great basketball played today. The lads linked up well and despite some mental mistake they regrouped and found their form. We’re in a great position to win the division at the moment but we must make sure we stay focused no matter who the opponent so we can be true to our abilities all season.”

Scorers/Roster: Dan Campbell 31, Gaz Williams 27, Jack Speary 9, Sam Dodge 6, Connor Doherty 2, Stuart Purnell, Rob Legg.
